When paid social is worth adding - and when it isn't

Mersive · 28 May 2026 · 5 min read

We keep paid social as an add-on rather than baking it into every package, and the reason is simple: for a lot of businesses it is the wrong next pound to spend.

Paid amplifies, it does not rescue

If organic content is not converting anyone, budget will buy more people who do not convert. The economics get worse, not better. Fix the offer and the message first, on cheap organic reach, then pay to reach more of the people it already works on.

The signal you are ready

The clearest sign is a piece of organic content that reliably produces enquiries. That is a tested asset. Putting budget behind something already proven is a very different bet from hoping budget will find product-market fit for you.

Keep the budget yours

When clients do add paid, the ad spend stays separate from our fee and is set by them. It keeps the incentive clean: we are not paid more for spending more of your money.
